Ed. – We apologize for the slight technical difficulties that are audible in the first seven minutes of this week’s episode.
We close out the month of September with a group of musicians that are forging their own sonic path by cutting through the interchangeable soundscape of what’s trendy and hip with an aggressive, yet cerebral groove that stands above the herd. The Progressive Metal band TENSOR hits the show with a gustatory gut punch that cannot be dismissed.
Progressive metal (sometimes shortened to prog metal) is a broad fusion music genre melding heavy metal and progressive rock, combining the loud “aggression” and amplified guitar-driven sound of the former with the more experimental, cerebral or “pseudo-classical” compositions of the latter.
The band is the brainchild of Josh Brenneman and Will Ash, and saw them release their debut full-length album, Passport, earlier this summer. The pair of self-described math rock geeks produced an auditory tour de force, a taste of which you’ll hear on this episode. Toss their music aside at your own peril, because it has been said that the geeks shall inherit the Earth…
